At VIP we have a love for recipes that are low risk with delicious rewards. This one in particular has a fantastic work to flavour ratio. It’s great for a busy weeknight or when you just feel like cheating on your diet with something fatty, salty and sweet!
Ingredients
2 bottles of dark beer
- 5 bratwurst sausages
1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion sliced
1 red or green bell pepper sliced thinly
2 cloves garlic chopped or minced
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
Method
Heat olive oil in a large pot
Add onions and bell pepper and saute until softened
Add garlic and saute until fragrant, be careful not to let it burn
Add beer, sugar, salt and pepper to the pot and bring to a boil
- Submerge brats in the cooking liquid, reduce the heat to medium and cook for 12 minutes.
Remove the brats from the pot and continue to reduce the cooking liquid
Transfer the brats to a hot grill or grill pan for 3-5 minutes on each side until grill marks are achieved
Serve with a side of the cooked vegetables
