Beer Bratz Recipe

Cheat on your diet with with salty, fatty and sweet week night treat.

At VIP we have a love for recipes that are low risk with delicious rewards. This one in particular has a fantastic work to flavour ratio. It’s great for a busy weeknight or when you just feel like cheating on your diet with something fatty, salty and sweet! 


  • 2 bottles of dark beer

  • 5 bratwurst sausages
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 1 red or green bell pepper sliced thinly

  • 2 cloves garlic chopped or minced

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes


  • Heat olive oil in a large pot

  • Add onions and bell pepper and saute until softened

  • Add garlic and saute until fragrant, be careful not to let it burn

  • Add beer, sugar, salt and pepper to the pot and bring to a boil

  • Submerge brats in the cooking liquid, reduce the heat to medium and cook for 12 minutes.
  • Remove the brats from the pot and continue to reduce the cooking liquid

  • Transfer the brats to a hot grill or grill pan for 3-5 minutes on each side until grill marks are achieved

    Serve with a side of the cooked vegetables
